IRURETA PREPARES FOR THE PRESEASON

Deportivo trainer Javier Irureta is already thinking of the hard weeks to come.
In the last days of his vacation in the Basque Country, he is preoccupied with
the qualification round that Deportivo will have to play.

The Basque technician spoke for Radio Voice: "The economic situation is at
stake and this creates additional pressure on the whole team. This is very
different from playing a qualification round for the UEFA Cup; it is very
important for the club". For that reason, he needs the team to be in good shape
for the first leg of the qualification round to be played on the 12 or 13th of
August, less than a month after the training starts.

The second leg, to be played on the 26th or 27th of August, is less of a worry
to the technician, since the team will have played a sufficient amount of games
by then. Irureta wishes to dispute an average of twelve friendlies before the
12 of August and three more before the beginning of the Liga. As far as the
training sessions are concerned, the trainer consideres that "after thirty
sessions of training, we will be able to play the first leg of the Champions
League qualification round, but we will need twenty more before the second
leg at the Riazor".

The Basque coach insisted on the necessity to reach a good form quickly,
although he noticed that the excessive number of players in the training camp
at Vilalba does not help at all. "It is too crowded for an efficient training.
It is not the most advisable situation", he clarified. He also insisted on
bringing some new players to the team, because "new people with new ideas,
ambitions and desires" are needed. "To have them or not, can represent the
difference between a better performance or failure", he assured.

Anyway, the technician said that he does not worry about not having the players
he has requested from the first day of training. "The core of the team is the
same, and with good will, the equipment can replace any deficiencies". What is
more important for the technician though, is that the team doesn't face a wave
of injuries, as in the previous season.
