GOAL TOTAL CLARIFICATION

With the season now at an end and final totals being studied, there are a
couple of points of clarification that might be of interest to anyone
keeping Chelsea statistics.


Decisions on the identity of scorers were announced following two
deflected goals during the second half of the season. Those announcements
are repeated here, with the first one regarding a goal in our FA Cup win
at Middlesbrough in February.

A Ramires shot deflected off Fernando Torres on its way into the net and
with there being no equivalent of the Premier League's Dubious Goals Panel
covering FA Cup matches, crediting the goal falls to the club.

After reviewing the goal, the management team ruled that Ramires should be
named as the goalscorer. Therefore Torres ended the season as Chelsea's
topscorer in all competitions with a total of 22 goals. Ramires scored
nine.

The other goal recently reviewed was the winner at Old Trafford earlier this
month, Juan Mata's shot having struck Manchester United's Phil Jones on its
way in. This was judged by the Premier League and their committee officially
attributed it to Mata, who is our second topscorer in the season with 20
goals.
