Otis Smith, GM of the Magic, laughed off suggestions that his
reeling team would be willing to trade two of his youngest
players--Darko Milicic and J.J. Redick--for Vince Carter,
calling the Net guard "fool's gold". The comment was made in
the context of trade deadline talks, but also carried with it
an indication of how Smith generally feels about Carter. Carter
has been rumored to have interest in returning to Florida if
he decides to opt out of his contract. His agent met with Rod
Thorn Wednesday.

誰寫的，還有他是純粹各大報導而已還是有自己的資料或訪談，因為這樣
看起來 Smith 的 "fool's gold" 的確是指 "the Nets guard" ，但我去
翻了原文，以前後文的語氣連貫來看，也很有可能是指交易本身。其實按
照道理來想，指交易本身是比較合理一點的，但通常他們會用到 "fool's
gold" 這樣的名詞，指人是比較有可能一點的。

從另外一個角度來想，其實美國人在公開場合發言，很少像這樣不留情面
給人的，除非 Smith 和 Carter有什麼過節，否則這樣對媒體發表這樣的
言論也有點奇怪。Smith 這段發言的對象是佛羅里達州的媒體，也就是他
們魔術隊自家的新聞報導，合理的推論是奧蘭多的球迷「有可能」很喜歡
Carter，很希望他能到魔術隊來，畢竟 Carter 的人氣是不容小覷的，所
以 Smith 對媒體發表這樣的言論來破除這種迷思…

或許這就是官方發言曖昧不清的藝術吧，總之除非能取得進一步的資訊，
否則就只能靠各人各自解讀了...
