DONATO: "I WILL RETIRE IF DEPORTIVO OFFER ME A JOB"

The only option for Donato to retire at the end of this season is if he gets
offered a job by Deportivo. Anyway, the match of Saturday against Espanyol
could be the final one of Donato at the club as probably he won't get a new
contract as a player. Being 40-years old, the most veteran player of the Liga
doesn't wants to quit football, but also is fond of staying in La Coruna.

Q: Will it be your final match at Deportivo this Saturday?

A: I don't know, as the only thing I know is that it's the last one of the
season. It seems that people want me to say goodbye to Deportivo, but I already
have said many times that I want to continue here. My time seems to come to
an end, but nobody of Deportivo has told me so. Hopefully it won't be like
that, as it would be a horror scenario after 10 years at the club.

Q: How would you like to see your goodbye at Deportivo?

A: I cannot ask anything of the people, as they always have treated me in a
great way. But I would like to have a "goodbye match", with players like Aldair
, Zico, Rai... but let's not dream about it.

Q: Will you quit football if you won't get a new contract at Deportivo?

A: I have the condition to continue. But I won't use this like an advertisement
or something like that, because I could have done better this season. I would
like to play at an ambitious club, although it being from the Segunda Division.
Still, if Deportivo offer me a position, I will stay here because I like to
live here.

Q: What's your feeling at the end of this season?

A: It has been a strange season because of the results and the "Mallorca"
incident. The fact that I got fined has hurt me a lot. The worst was still that
Enrique Rodriguez (the lawyer of the club) and Montiel (a boardmember) wrote
some bad things about me. But I have a clear consciousness and the decision
that was made was only to the benefit of the club.

Q: Would you like to have someone of the club talking to you?

A: Of course I would like to see somebody saying something to me, whether they
will count on me, because I have been around for ten seasons and I have given
to the club all I had.

Q: What moment will you remember of Deportivo?

A: One should not look back in life, but I always will remember the penalty of
Djukic in 1994 against Valencia which cost us the title. I will remember it
because I was supposed to take that penalty... But Arsenio had substituted me
some minutes before.

Q: And which corner would you have chosen?

A: If I would say I would have scored that penalty it would discredit Djukic,
but I would have taken the other corner. I had noted before that the Valencia
goalkeeper had stopped a penalty of Valladolid diving to his right, and
therefore I would have chosen the left corner. I have asked several times to
God why he took me off the pitch that night...
