of Balle de Jeu (Game Point), Busted Racquet lists the five most impressive
things about Date Krumm's victory:
Love — With the 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over the ninth-seeded Safina, Date Krumm,
39, becomes the second-oldest woman of the Open Era to win a match at Roland
Garros. Virginia Wade was three months older than Date Krumm when she won a
first-round match in 1985.
15 — Safina was 3 years old when Date Krumm made her French Open debut in
1989. Twenty-one players in the field weren't even born in 1989.
30 — Date Krumm was already the fifth-oldest woman to ever play at Roland
Garros. She has a ways to go if she wants to become the oldest though. In
2004, Martina Navratilova came out of retirement to play at the French at the
age of 47.
40 — Last year, Date Krumm became the oldest woman to win a WTA tour event
since 1983. She had returned from a 13-year retirement at the suggestion of
her husband, German racecar driver Michael Krumm.
Game — The 39-year-old is older than Pete Sampras, Michael Chang and Monica
Seles.
