Chien-Ming Wang hopes to return to major leaugues

NEW YORK -- Chien-Ming Wang stood in the clubhouse on Tuesday afternoon
with his gray workout T-shirt drenched in sweat, and he once again
proclaimed that he believes he's ready to return to his spot in the
Yankees' starting rotation.
But even after a 50-pitch bullpen session in which he effectively
commanded his bread-and-butter pitch -- the sinker -- the Yankees
still have yet to decide whether Wang will get his wish or pitch
another rehab start in the minors, where has thrown 13 shutout innings.
"There's no doubt about it," Wang said through a translator. "I'd
definitely love to be back up here."
Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who watched Wang throw his bullpen, said
he came away encouraged when the pitcher kept his sinker down in the
strike zone. Girardi said Wang looked better live than it did on a
video of Wang's second rehab start.
"It had more life to it," Girardi said of Wang's sinker on Tuesday.
"It was down in the zone consistently and I thought it had more life
to it than what we've seen. And that to me is encouraging because
that's what we need from him."
@@ Wang will be expected back at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.@@
Meanwhile, Girardi said the decision on what to do with Wang will
have nothing to do with the performance of Phil Hughes, who has taken
over for Wang in the rotation.
"The decision on Chien-Ming Wang will be based on his performances,
and (where) we feel he's at," Girardi said. "It won't necessarily be
based on anyone else's."
