Nevertheless, Makaay confirmed to Spanish sportspaper AS that he already has
bought the tickets to arrive in La Coruna on Sunday, if Deportivo and Bayern
Munich don’t reach an agreement. “I know we have our first training session
at eight”, Makaay said. “And if Deportivo sell me in the meantime I will use
the time to visit friends”. This is what AS and Makaay discussed:

Q: What’s true about that interview you gave to “Bild”?

A: It’s true that I have spoken to a Dutch journalist who works for this
paper. But I have never said that I won’t return to Deportivo. Bild has
invented this, and if nothing changes I will be at Riazor on Sunday like the
rest of my colleagues.

Q: They also wrote that your family is looking forward to live in Germany.

A: I have said that my family wouldn’t mind to go to Munich, because they know
the country and it’s close to The Netherlands.

Q: And you speak good German already…

A: Yes, since a while. But for them to relate it to a possible move to Bayern
is nonsense.

Q: You will know that at Deportivo they don’t like what you have said…

A: Intelligent people will know that Bild is a sensationalist newspaper and
normally not much is true of what’s written in it.

Q: What do you know about the negotiations?

A: I only know what my agent, Rob Jansen, tells me. At the moment I am still a
player of Deportivo and I keep celebrating holidays with my family. If the
clubs agree on a transfer, they will contact me to negotiate with Bayern.

Q: But Rummenigge claims that you already have made a deal with Bayern.

A: I haven’t signed anything, and I haven’t negotiated with anyone of Bayern.
But I think we could reach a deal soon.

Q: But why? For the sportive or economic aspects?

A: For both. We cannot deny that Bayern are one of the best teams in Europe,
together with Manchester United and Real Madrid. And as a player I would like
to play there. Newspapers already have reported on my annual salary at
Deportivo (about 500.000 Euro net). I don’t think it will be difficult for
Bayern to pay me more.

Q: Do you know that Lendoiro is asking 24 million Euro for you?

A: Yes I know, because this number has been going around in the media.

Q: Is it too much?

A: Well, there are not many sums like this paid on the transfermarket. But I am
a Deportivo player and they must decide about what they want to ask for me.

Q: But Bayern claim they won’t raise their offer.

A: Well, I only can wait because I don’t make decisions at Bayern Munich.

Q: Still, their coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has said that he needs “fresh blood”.

A: Hitzfeld always has spoken in a good way about me and he’s in favour of my
signature.

Q: Do you think a deal will be done?

A: It doesn’t matter what I think or say, because I cannot decide about it.
