Mason Mount reveals dressing room opinion on Chelsea transfers this summer

As the Premier League title arms race continues ahead of the new season
Mason Mount is optimistic.


Not just because Chelsea have landed ￡34million Kalidou Koulibaly and
￡47.5million Raheem Sterling. Also because of the quality already at the
club, the rising stars coming through and the calibre of the players still
being sought by last season's FA Cup Finalists. New owners Todd Boehly,
Hansjorg Wyss, Clearlake Capital and Mark Walter are already delivering on
their promises to keep the club competitive.


They will need to with defending champions Manchester City and runners-up
Liverpool both adding more firepower, Spurs resurgent under Antonio Conte
and both Arsenal and Manchester City strengthening significantly. But the
early transfer moves have the seal of approval from the Chelsea dressing
room.

Mount himself assumed the captain's armband for a spell during Wednesday
night's penalty shoot-out defeat at Charlotte FC. He admits to relishing
the responsibility which will be music to the ears of fans hankering in
the longer term for another home-grown captain after John Terry.

Chelsea consider Levi Colwill transfer options as Mason Mount makes his
thoughts clear

Mason Mount sees striking similarities between his career progression and
the newest, exciting graduate of Chelsea's academy Levi Colwill.


The nineteen-year-old centre-back - who spent last season helping
Huddersfield to gain promotion via the Play-Offs - impressed on Wednesday
night against Charlotte FC. Colwill has earned rave reviews for the
considerable talent he already has for his age and has a whole host of
Premier League clubs hungry to take him again temporarily.

A decision over where Colwill will play this coming season will be made in
relation to the number of defenders boss Thomas Tuchel is able to bring
in. The German is confident of landing both PSG's Presnel Kimpembe and
Sevilla's Jules Kounde. Should that happen it is very likely Colwill will
go out on loan to gain even more experience.


Whatever happens, Mount believes it is a testimony to the impressive work
of the Chelsea academy. For years Terry was its sole success story. Now
fans can celebrate Mount, Reece James and Conor Gallagher who are all in
the Blues' first-team squad.

While Thomas Tuchel is desperate to block Cesar Azpilicueta's switch to
Barcelona, the Chelsea boss can be safe in the knowledge he has someone
willing to inherit the armband should the Spaniard eventually depart.

Blues academy graduate Mason Mount has insisted that he is ready to take
on the responsibility that comes with being the skipper of Chelsea from
next season onwards. Azpilicueta has been at Stamford Bridge for just
under a decade but now harbours desires of a new challenge at the Camp
Nou.


Both of the aforementioned players are currently away on Chelsea's
pre-season tour of the United States, though Azpilicueta missed the most
recent outing - a penalty shootout defeat by Charlotte after sustaining a
hamstring strain.


In his absence, it was Mount who wore the armband - something he reflected
on to reporters immediately after the game.
