The court, which adjoins the broadcasting centre at the All-England club, is
deemed a showcourt but Jankovic said, as second seed, she should have been
handed a Centre or Number One Court billing.

“I was almost playing in the parking lot. I almost need a helicopter to go
to my court.” Jankovic told a news conference.

“I don’t know what they are doing, you know, to put Venus on number two and
I’m on number 18, especially having an injury and asking for a favour to
play a little bit later on in the day, added Jankovic.

“They told me Court 18 is, you know, a TV court. And I said, ‘But so are
Centre Court and Court One. This is not a reason to put me on Court 18.’”

“Yesterday I couldn’t train. I was resting. I was icing. I had, you know, a
few injections. I took a lot of medicine,” she said.

“I almost spent the whole day with the doctors, with the physios, trying to
get better.

“I was really not happy with the scheduling. I asked to play a little bit
later on in the day, which would give me a few more hours to recover and do
another therapy in the morning. But what can you do?”

Twice winner Serena Williams questioned why she had been made to play her
second round match on Court Two, but found herself back there again on
Monday. Her sister Venus, the defending champion, also kicked off Monday’s
proceedings on Court Two.

“I was almost playing in the parking lot. I almost needed a helicopter to go
to my court,” the normally happy-go-lucky Jankovic, who needed injections in
her sore left knee before her match on the snug Court 18, told reporters.

Like Jankovic, Venus and Serena were clearly unhappy with the court
schedulers after being sent to the “Graveyard of Champions” as Court two is
known.

“Initially I thought, ok, is this the right schedule? I thought maybe there
was a mistake,” Serena, who beat her sister in the 2002 and 2003 finals,
said.
