Chalobah: Sharing a pitch with Thiago Silva is unreal

Ahead of our FA Cup trip to Luton Town, Trevoh Chalobah has admitted that
he would love to emulate team-mate Thiago Silva's successful career and
revealed how he used to idolise the Brazilian growing up.

Chalobah has earned his way into the Blues senior squad this season after
three successful loans in England and abroad. After an excellent
pre-season, the defender has now made 22 appearances so far in 2021/22,
including a solid 120-minute performance in Sunday's cup final, after
which he was left requiring stitches in the dressing room following Naby
Keita's late tackle.


The 22-year-old lined up alongside Thiago Silva at Wembley and has
discussed his admiration for a defensive colleague he never imagined he
would one day be sharing a pitch with.


'I came to Chelsea aged eight or nine and I was a striker,' he revealed.
'I moved to centre-back and I used to always look at Thiago Silva. I
watched videos of him on YouTube and implemented my game like his. Sharing
a pitch with him is unreal.'


Chalobah also outlined what boss Thomas Tuchel said to him after he scored
on his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace on the opening day of
the season.


'When the manager spoke to me after Palace, he said you need to stay with
the likes of Thiago, Azpi and Rudiger to learn from them' he added. 'I've
done the games, I've done the experience and now it is time to learn from
the senior players. Sharing the pitch with them is where I want to be.

Trev has three goals so far in his debut Chelsea season


'Azpilicueta always speaks to me. You know how many games he has played
now, he tells me to look after my body. He has played so many games. He is
hardly ever injured and that's what I want to do.'


One other defender who has had a strong influence on Trevoh's transition
to the men's first-team squad is Antonio Rudiger, who Trevoh says is one
of the most supportive and motivational players in the dressing room.


'He is also from Sierra Leone so when he first came [to the club] my
brother told him to look after me,' Chalobah revealed. 'I used to go round
to his house and we chilled. Every time he came over for training, he
always got hold of me and helped me.

Trev and Toni have a strong relationship


'He was the only one that season that believed in me and told me to keep
going. The next year, I ended up going on loan maybe three times, and
after every season he was telling me to keep going and saying “I know you
are good enough to play for this club” and he just kept me going.


'He told me to believe in myself. I knew I was good enough, I just needed
a platform. He told me my time would come, just make sure you're ready.
Obviously, it has come this season and I have took it well.'


But what is Toni like to share a dressing room with?


'Very straightforward,' Trev replied. 'He tells me how it is and speaks to
me like I am a grown adult. For me, that is what has helped me as well, it
has kept me on my toes. We know how aggressive he is on the pitch, so he
is someone I look up to.'
