Pedroia a big Bonds fan: Grew up with Giants

PHOENIX - Emotions run high in the baseball world when talking about Barry
Bonds. But for Red Sox [team stats] rookie second baseman Dustin Pedroia
[stats], the feelings regarding the embattled San Francisco Giants slugger
might be different than many.
一談到棒子爺，整個棒球界就議論紛紛，然而對紅襪新人二壘手小派來說，
對戰這名巨人隊強打者還有更多其他的意義。

"I don’t care what anybody says about him,” said Pedroia prior to last
night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, “he’s the best player of
all time.”

Pedroia’s perspective is unique. The Woodland (Calif.) High graduate
grew up a Giants fan and played college ball at Arizona State, just like
Bonds.

Now Pedroia is enjoying watching Bonds approach Hank Aaron’s all-time
home run record. After going 2-for-4 without a homer in yesterday’s 6-0
Giants loss to the Oakland A’s, Bonds is nine home runs away from tying
Aaron at 755.

"I grew up idolizing him,” said Pedroia, who will share the same field
with Bonds when the Giants arrive at Fenway Park [map] on Friday for an
interleague series. “In our area he was always the best player, and then I
went to Arizona State and he was the best player there. I can’t wait to have
him break that (home run) record. It’s exciting for me, and especially my
family because we have been huge Giants fans and I grew up watching him. I
just love watching him. As much stuff as he has had to put up with, shoot, he
’s just better than everybody else.”

While there is a chance Pedroia could exchange pleasantries with his
childhood idol when San Francisco swings through Boston for its three-game
set at Fenway next weekend, he at least can say that he has met Bonds on one
other occasion. The previous meeting came in the ASU batting cages during one
of Bonds’ visits.
被問到對於下週終於有機會向兒提時代的英雄閒聊的看法，小派說其實他先前在別的場合
已經見過棒子爺，那次是棒子爺拜訪亞利桑納大學的打擊練習場

"Man, he’s just a baller. I was in awe,” Pedroia said. “He’s the man."
