TELFAIR STILL A CELT?
Andy Miller, the agent for Sebastian Telfair, says it isn't beyond
possibility that his client could return to the Boston Celtics after his gun
charge in April.
"Danny (Ainge) has been really supportive and candid throughout this whole
process," Miller said. "We all agreed that it was best to let everything calm
down, let the smoke clear and take a look at where things stood. But it
remains to be seen if Sebastian will play in Boston again."
One of the Celtics owners, Wyc Grousbeck, had declared that Telfair, 21,
would never play for Boston again. Still, the Miami Heat, Denver Nuggets and
Minnesota Timberwolves, among others, are believed to hold interest in him.
Telfair's arrest capped a disappointing season with the Celtics. After
trading for him last summer, Ainge had hoped he could be part of the
franchise's future. Now, it appears unlikely. In 2005, the Portland Trail
Blazers made him the first sub six-foot high school player to be drafted,
punctuating a rapid rise that included a multi-million dollar shoe deal with
Adidas and even a book about Telfair.
"No one is condoning what took place," Miller said of Telfair's second
gun-related arrest as a pro. "We're taking steps so nothing like this ever
happens again. He's a 21-year-old point guard in this league. He'd be a
junior in college right now. He's going to have a good career. He's going to
evolve."
