Wang: “I’ll try everything I can”
Chien-Ming Wang is wearing a Yankees cap again.
Signed to a minor league contract late last week, Wang reported to the
Yankees complex this morning for a light workout. He played catch in the
outfield, fielded grounders off flat ground, then spoke to reporters
about his return to the team that originally signed him back in 2000.
“It was an easy decision for me (to sign back with the Yankees) because
I never wanted to leave,” Wang said. “… It’s like back in the day.
This was my first team, this is where I started. I feel great.”
Wang said there were “four or five” teams interested in him, all
looking into minor league deals. He pitched in the World Baseball Classic,
but Wang said he’s only playing catch right now, getting up to 120 feet.
He’s planning to throw a bullpen on Wednesday.
Although he knows he’s heading to Triple-A to start the season, Wang
is hopeful that he’ll be in the majors before the end of the season.
“I’ll try everything I can,” he said. “Try to keep pitching and let
them see.”

I tried to take video, but the sun made it awfully hard to get anything
decent. Just trust me, Wang was throwing a baseball and catching a
baseball. You’ve seen it a million times.
