Under-18s report: Tottenham 2 Chelsea 0
25 Aug 2018
It was a tough morning for our youngsters in the Under-18 Premier League
as they conceded goals midway through the first and second half to suffer
their first defeat of the new campaign.

Andy Myers made three changes from last week's 1-1 draw at home to
Leicester City, all enforced through injury or illness. Henry Lawrence and
Jon Russell came into the midfield, while Pierre Ekwah Elimby started
alongside Jack Wakely at centre-back.
James Clark and Clinton Mola comprised the remainder of the back four
protecting Karlo Ziger in goal, while Russell and Lawrence lined up with
Marcel Lewis and Thierno Ballo in a midfield diamond behind George Nunn
and Armando Broja up front.
The best Blues chance of the first period came inside the opening minutes
as Clark advanced purposefully down the right flank and found Nunn at the
back post, though the striker's header had too much height to trouble
Joshua Oluwayemi in the Tottenham goal.
Spurs opened the scoring with just nine minutes on the clock as J'Neil
Bennett supplied the pass for Maghoma and the attacking midfielder did
well to trap the ball and round Ziger before slotting the ball into an
empty net.
Our Croatian keeper remained busy as the hosts built on their positive
start, with saves made from Phoenix Patterson, Shashoua and Maghoma in the
first quarter of the contest. Myers's men were struggling to build play
out of defence and through the midfield, with Tottenham pestering and
hassling out of possession.

Karlo Ziger claims a high ball in the box
Operating on the side of our midfield diamond, Lawrence had licence to
push forward in support of the front three and went close with a deflected
drive after half an hour, before Russell fired high over the crossbar from
20 yards out.
A difficult first half dwindled into the break with little action in the
latter stages before the visitors restarted with more purpose and a
sharper edge in the final third. They fashioned their best move of the
morning as Broja retrieved possession on the right and delivered low
towards Ballo, whose clever dummy allowed the ball to run through to
Lawrence in space. The 16-year-old made a good connection to his effort,
which seemed to be heading for the bottom corner until the intervention of
Malachi Walcott, whose flying block kept his side in front.
Oluwayemi then saved from Nunn and Mola, the latter striking from
distance, before Spurs provided a reminder of their threat and found the
back of the net again on the hour-mark, though Patterson's neat finish was
chalked out for a tight offside.

James Clark hunts down possession for the Blues
Lewis's influence had been fleeting but the forward almost provided the
spark for our route back into the contest. His left-footed shot with 25
minutes remaining trickled across the face of goal and wide before
Oluwayemi pulled off a super flying save to tip another effort behind.
That proved a decisive moment in the game as Spurs soon doubled their lead
down the other end. Maghoma moved dangerously into the box from the left
and fashioned enough space to fire a shot at goal, which Ziger kept out
but only by palming into the path of Shashoua to prod in from close range.
Myers handed schoolboys Lewis Bate and Dion Rankine some minutes late on
but there was no way back for the Blues, who now have four points on the
board from their opening three league matches. They return to action at
home to Arsenal next weekend.
