SYDNEY: Healthy Beginnings...
Justine defeated Russia's Vera Dushevina (WTA ranked #43) 6-2 6-2 in the
second round at the Medibank International today. A very positive start this
season with healthy beginnings; Justine is getting her rhythm, and focus
back. There's no photo perfection tennis yet, but looking better each day.
Justine played 19 year old Vera Dushevina, one of the talented Russian tour
contingent. Unlike her younger opponent, who slugged it out against her
compatriot Zvonareva in an emotionally charged two hour 3 set battle in the
opening round; Justine came into the match looking fresh. And subsequently,
left just as refreshed.
The match broke wide open in the first set in the 3rd game. Justine fired
away, despite average serving, to a 4-1 lead. Unlike last season, a calm
Belgian had no problems to take the ending points. It was 6-2 in 30 minutes.
Justine showed a bit of match rust in the second set, losing her two service
games; giving the Russian a look in. Refocusing, Justine cranked up two aces
to take the 3-2 lead, and headed toward a finish of the second set breaking
Vera's service games. 6-2 in 29 minutes.
Final Score: Justine Henin-Hardenne def. Vera Dushevina 6-2 6-2 in 59 min.
