SYDNEY: The Once, and The Future.

In one of the most highly anticipated, and publicised tennis matches of the
new season, two lionesses of modern women's tennis played their first match
against one another in 5 years. This highly unusual first round encounter was
due to the comeback of Martina Hingis as a WC at the Medibank International
tournament in Sydney; a warm-up event for the Australian Open. Justine
defeated Hingis in a match that resonated her intentions for tennis seasons
future 6-3 6-3.

Hingis came in with bravado, and showed signs of her past brilliance, but
Justine, despite not playing a single match since October 2005 ran away with
two sets. The Belgian champ showcased lightening quickness, passing shots,
and deeper hitting to the Swiss. Hingis was unable to convert breakpoint
chances nor use her serve to much effect in the first set 6-3 in 35 minutes.

The second set featured an astonishing 3 aces in a row game for Justine that
rattled Hingis, and folded the Swiss service game for 4-2 . The Belgian high
flying ace controlled the rallies, yet again, with answers to the shorter
returns of the Swiss. Confidence grew for Justine, and an electric 1-handed
backhand on Martina's first serve thrilled the mesmerized center court
audience, and set the tone for the finishing games. 6-3 in the second set at
34 minutes.
