Brandon Snyder reuniting with old friend Koji Uehara

Brandon Snyder goes as far back with Koji Uehara as anyone on the Red Sox
roster. He's never seen Uehara like this.

"This is his coming-out party, I guess," Snyder said. "He's always been,
obviously, very team-oriented. He's up for everybody. He's in the middle of
that -- but not as crazy, I guess you could say."
Snyder came up with the Baltimore Orioles, played last season with the Texas
Rangers and, after having been released at the end of spring training, signed
with the Red Sox just before Opening Day this year. In other words, he's been
in the same organization as Uehara for each of the last five Opening Days.
There weren't high-fives in Baltimore or Texas like there are in Boston --
or, at least, "not as aggressively," Snyder said. "They were there, but they
were more subdued. Now, it's kind of full-blown. ... I was in Pawtucket and I
saw him (on TV) coming through the dugout, crushing everybody. I was like,
'Oh, my goodness, what got into him?'"
Snyder didn't get to know Uehara much in Baltimore, but the two became
friends with the Rangers last season -- bonding over their mutual affection
for Japanese food.
"Anytime we go into Seattle, I always go to eat with him," Snyder said. "I
already told him, straight up, we're going (on the upcoming trip)."
The dish Snyder likes best is called natto, which he described as "a
fermented soybean that smells like feet and is sticky and is an awful
rotten-colored brown. ... (Uehara) doesn't eat it. I eat it. He thinks it's
hilarious. Even Japanese people don't like it, but I love it."
