Robin cry adds to wage bill
PREMIER League wages have gone through the ￡1billion barrier.

Even worse news is this is expected to rise to ￡2bn by 2010.

And in Holland, Robin van Persie says Arsenal should pay more to keep their
players.

This is the same Van Persie who made just 13 league starts last season, just
17 the previous season, a mere 13 the season before that and 12 in 2004-05.

Here is his story from the Arsenal website:

OCTOBER: Sustained a bad knee injury playing for Holland.

DECEMBER: Returned mid-month but slight knock left him sidelined until the
New Year.

JANUARY: Same old story. Returned against Spurs but withdrawn at half-time.
Missed rest of month (thigh problem).

MARCH: Long-awaited return against Wigan, then scored first goal since
October at Bolton. Second comeback in a matter of days — he had played
throughout Holland’s exciting 4-3 win over Austria.

APRIL: Injury continues to wreak havoc. Completed just one game at home to
Reading but did score a sublime goal away to Derby in last game of season.

His call comes at a time, surprise, surprise, when he is negotiating a new
contract.

My advice would be to get himself fully fit, start playing a few games
against serious opposition and consider himself extremely fortunate he’s on
over ￡50k-a-week
