溫布頓後的DC,Stepanek因為膝傷缺陣,對手智利則是少了Gonzalez。
Stepanek to miss Chile trip
Radek Stepanek looks likely to join Fernando Gonzalez on the sidelines for
next month’s Davis Cup by BNP Paribas quarterfinal between Czech Republic
and Chile, having picked up a left knee injury.
Stepanek has already pulled out of Wimbledon, which follows his withdrawal
from last week’s grass court event in Halle.
The 31-year-old, who has not progressed past a second round since reaching
the final in Brisbane at the start of the year, also announced he was
suffering from fatigue syndrome in March.
Along with compatriot Tomas Berdych, Stepanek has been an ever-present in the
Czech team for the last three years, including the nation’s run to the Final
in 2009 and 4-1 victory over Belgium in this year’s first round.
It’s expected that Stepanek’s absence will provide an opportunity for Jan
Hajek and Lukas Dlouhy to step into the side, with Hajek playing singles and
Dlouhy teaming up with Berdych in the doubles rubber.
Earlier in the week, Gonzalez also announced that he has lost his battle to
be fit for the tie, having been ruled out for 10 weeks with a knee injury.
Nicolas Massu now takes on the role as Chile’s top player.
Chile will host Czech Republic on clay at Enjoy Tennis Center in Coquimbo,
the venue of the South Americans’ 4-1 win against Israel in the first round.
The tie is taking place from 9-11 July.
