07/10/2006:
It's been three weeks of rest and recovery for Justine to heal her injury.
These past days the Belgian champion has been focusing on the physical therapy
program of her knee. She will gradually move into training on a bicycle, and
aqua jogging beginning early next week. If all goes accordingly well, Justine
will be doing sprint training, and footwork drills next weekend.
Justine cannot make a conclusion yet about her participation in Madrid.
Everything will depend on how her body reacts to the reintroduction and
evolution of training in the weeks ahead after her knee injury.
Justine #1 in the Race to Madrid
Justine is still at #1 in the Sony Ericsson Race to Madrid rankings, and at #2
in the WTA full rankings (the 52 week classification). She holds a 600 point
advantage to the nearest ranked player Amelie Mauresmo, and more than 700
points ahead of the new US OPEN champion Maria Sharapova.
We'll have all the latest details, and number crunching for you in the weeks
ahead. The year end numero uno has yet to be crowned, and it may go down to
the wire in Madrid!
ALLEZ JUSTINE!
