REAL MADRID 4 - BETIS SEVILLA 1:

One half of this match for each team, as Betis deserved the lead they
obtained after 37 minutes of football when Fernando scored as Denilson
already had hit the post before. But after the break the match turned
around and Real Madrid eventually had no problems with injury-wrecked
Betis.


VILLARREAL 1 - VALLADOLID 0:

Both teams are still far enough away from the relegation zone, but this
was not noted in this match. Jorge Lopez scored the only goal from the
spot although the visitors deserved some more from this tie. Valladolid
is Depor's next opponent.


RECREATIVO 1 - VALENCIA 1:

The champions of last season had to save a single point with five minutes
to go as Fabio Aurelio prevented them from defeat. This was bad luck for
the home team as they had several chances to decide this match.


RAYO VALLECANO 2 - MALAGA 1:

The Madrid team needed the points desperately and had to sweat after Dario
Silva brought Malaga back into the match. But much relief after the final
whistle and Rayo can breathe again.


RACING SANTANDER 2 - ALAVES 0:

A typical relegation match full of mistakes and bad football, but in the
end president Piterman got his first win as coach of Racing. But both
teams will fear for the end of the season when the relegated teams will
be revealed.


REAL SOCIEDAD 0 - ESPANYOL 0:

Clemente's men continued their impressive run (only 1 defeat in their last
7 matches) as also the Liga leaders (like Deportivo and Real Madrid) could
not beat them. Still the home team (without De Pedro and Nihat) could have
won this match as Espanyol only created one single chance during 90 minutes
of football while Kovacevic hit the bar.


MALLORCA 0 - CELTA 2:

Pandiani's team paid the price for the Copa success against Deportivo as
they lost a Liga home match again. Celta were much more effective and two
strikes of Edu brought them three vital points to stay in the hunt for a
Champions League spot.


BARCELONA 2 - ATHLETIC 2:

Even a 2-0 lead was not enough for Barcelona to secure three points as
their nerves brought Athletic back into the match to snatch a draw. Saviola
and Overmars scored within the first 14 minutes, but in the first 10
minutes after the break the match was level again.


SEVILLA 1 - ATLETICO 1:

The return to the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium after four matches of suspension
only brought Sevilla one point although the team had dominated this match.
Still they needed a dubious goal from Fredi as the ball didn’t seemed to
have crossed the goalline, and the sending off of Reyes made life difficult
for Sevilla near the end.
