Justine's Storm Breaks Team Russia

In a power performance of classic Henin-Hardennesque style from the second
set to the finish, in a stifling environment of over heated tension after Kim
Clijster's defeat by team Russia's Elena Dementieva, Justine stormed the
venue to rain down on team Russia mini celebrations. The first day of Fed Cup
ended at 1-1.


The stage was ignited with the arrival of two teams on the court, and the
hopes of a nation were introduced individually to the packed crowd in Liege,
which included members of their royal family. Kim was unable to find her best
tennis, and succumbed to a Elena Dementieva
6-4 6-3.

Justine took to the stage with the weight of her country on her shoulders
against the hottest green clay player on tour Nadia Petrova, winner of two
titles back to back in the USA only last week. The match headed out south too
soon, but at 1-4 down Justine fought back. She was finally in the match at
4-4 as the crowd went crazy in delight, but lost the tiebreaker unable to
break Petrova's solid service games 2-7.

The Belgian started the second set with an ace, and superb tennis was on
show. For the first time during the day, the nation could embrace the
spectacle as Justine led at 4-2. The Russian rallied back to even things out
at 4-4, but Henin-Hardenne magic took over and Petrova is outplayed by sheer
tennis style plus savy. Belgium won the second set 6-4 as the audience went
into a frenzy with noise.

World Cup football type crowd waves, and chants of Justine! as Belgians
celebrated in the atmosphere, and Justine exceeded even more in the third
set. She broke Petrova, and roared ahead to 3-0, only to be dogged with
cramps. Back on court the mighty Belgian suffers with two easy games going to
Petrova. Down, and needing more Justine waved her hands in the air to her
countrymen in the stands for support, and vocal participation. Incredible
tennis with finesse, and deep yet arty shot making Henin-Hardenne went on,
and ruled over team Russia to take the match at 6-3 in the third set. All
with hails of approval to her fans in the audience.


Final score: 6-7(2) 6-4 6-3 in 2h4
