All for One, and One for Belgium!

Justine, Kim, Kirsten and Caroline are on the point of taking up one of the
most interesting Fed Cup ties of recent years in a situation where on record,
the two leading members of one team have a resume light years beyond the
trophy holders for the quarter finals round. In a most unusual case, the
current season form proves a very different story with team Russia carrying a
superior WTA tour record. Can team Belgium detrone team Russia? The ambiance
is solidarity this week, and Justine shares her thoughts on the big battle
for the upset this weekend in Liege. The Belgian locals, to say the least,
are thrilled to see their two icons Justine, and Kim. The excitement is
something akin to a Beatles reunion with John and Paul together again.


Justine spoke about the different ambiance for Fed Cup, and Team Russia.
"I am very very content to be back in Fed Cup. I'm happy getting to know
Kirsten and Caroline. I am aware that there were many controversies, but that
belongs to the past. My more beautiful memory in Fed Cup was the fact that we
won, it's a great pride. Today, I hope that we will be able to go further.
It's going to be tough, and even more to forecast the outcome. They (Russia)
are winning battles, the task will be difficult."


A major element in this huge clash of tennis power houses will be the public.
Justine hasn't played in her own country in an official tour match for nearly
two years. "I wasn't my most confident in the USA the last few weeks, but to
acknowledge it is already a first step. Playing in front of the Belgian
public is a different type of pressure. I haven't played here for quite a
while, yet I still feel nervous despite it being something I managed to
overcome. You prepare, yet you never know how'll you react to it (nerves),
either you transcend, or it paralyzes you. The advantage here (in Belgium)
compared to life on the tour circuit is that we are in a team. This
constitutes a force, we all feel the same way, can ask questions, and discuss
it."


The mood is very good in the Belgian team. Everyone will give 200% to try,
and take their nation towards victory. "Between Kim and I, there is a
rivalry, and that's normal. But, we are here to link our forces. We are
uniting. If it becomes 2-2 in the tie results, and the captain asks me to
play the doubles, I will take my responsabilities!"


The order of the matches will be announced later today on Friday. Did you
notice something funny about one of the photographs? Justine is wearing a
jacket with Kirsten Flipken's name embroidered. It's simply a team joke that
began when team Captain Carl Maes swapped jackets with one of the hitting
partners because his didn't fit. Justine said in that case she'll switch with
Kirsten out of solidarity, and everyone decided to exchange jackets for fun.
