Justine Named ITF Womens World Champion For 2006

Justine has been named 2006 ITF (International Tennis Federation) Womens
World Champion, the most important annual award designation in professional
tennis. This is the second time Justine has received the honour, the first
was back in 2003 for her breakthrough year winning two majors (RG & US Open),
and gaining the year-end #1 ranking. The award will be presented at the ITF
World Champions Dinner on Tuesday June 5, 2007 in Paris during Roland Garros.


"I would like to thank the ITF for this recognition, which is a great honour.
Tennis is played throughout the year, and to finish number one demonstrates a
consistency and the ability to perform at high levels for the whole season.
This is an accomplishment that I am extremely proud of." - Justine

The ITF's selection of its World Champions is based on an objective system
that considers not only performances at the Grand Slams, on the respective
tours and at the season-ending events, but also gives weight to performances
in the two ITF international team competitions, Davis Cup by BNP Paribas and
Fed Cup by BNP Paribas. The other big catergory winners were Roger Federer
Mens ITF World Champion, Bob and Mike Bryan as Mens Doubles World Champions,
and the duo of Samantha Stosur and Lisa Raymond as the Womens Doubles World
Champions.
