Grizzlies might make another bid for Allen Iverson

The Memphis Grizzlies made a personnel decision Thursday night that could
allow them to make another push at Pistons free agent Allen Iverson.

ESPN.com reported that power forward Hakim Warrick was taken by surprise when
the Grizzlies rescinded their $3-million qualifying offer to him, giving them
more flexibility on the free-agent market.

It could be a move to free up money to talk with Iverson, whose time in
Detroit last season was a disaster.

Iverson, 34, has been linked with the Heat, the Clippers, the Hornets and the
Grizzlies this summer but doesn't appear open to a bench role.

But he still has box-office appeal and the Grizzlies are trying to fill seats.

"I'm not a guy who says things automatically cannot happen, because funny
things can start to happen in free agency," Grizzlies general manager Chris
Wallace told ESPN.com. "We haven't closed the door on anybody. It would be
premature to do that. We like Hakim and felt he contributed, but we wanted a
little more flexibility going forward in free agency."
