Classy Murray into quarter-finals

Andy Murray booked his first appearance in a Masters Series quarter-final
with a 6-2 6-4 victory over former world number one Carlos Moya in Toronto.

The 19-year-old Scot will face Jarkko Nieminen in the last eight after
the Finn beat Italian David Sanguinetti.

Murray, who beat fellow Brit Tim Henman in the previous round, dominated
the first set against his Spanish rival.

He was broken twice in the second set, but still showed enough character
to come through for an impressive victory.

Murray was delighted with the way he managed to mix up his game to keep
Moya on his toes throughout.

"Moya has got a great forehand," said the teenager.

"His backhand is his slightly weaker side. I wanted to try to get the ball
wide on his forehand so I could, therefore, play into his backhand and try to
come into the net.

"I won 16 of my 19 points when I came up to the net. That was a pretty good
statistic. It worked pretty well."

After missing two early chances to break Moya in the first set, Murray
capitalised in his opponent's next service game to make it 3-1 and then
comfortably held serve to make it 4-1.

He restricted Moya to just one point in his fourth service game before a
double fault from the Spaniard gave Murray his second break and the first set.

Murray struggled at the start of the set, allowing Moya to win eight
points in a row and take a 2-0 lead, but the Scot stopped the rot to bring it
back to 2-1.

He broke Moya to level the match and then broke again in the eighth game
to go 5-3 ahead and edge closer to victory.

Although the former world number one immediately broke back, Murray came
back from 30-15 down to break Moya once more to progress into the
quarter-finals.
