A Good Return, and One Bad Day...

It's been a while since Justine lost a finals match, but she found the
weather conditions, and a very hardcourt dialled compatriot unable to help
find her game on Sunday. The Rogers Cup final went to Kim Clijsters 7-5 6-1
in 1hr 11min.

This was the first match between Justine, and Kim since the Australian Open
2004 finals. Kim has been playing well in the US summer hardcourt events, and
Rogers Cup is her 4th tournament, this is Justine's first. The storms earlier
in the week at Toronto gave way to very blustery wind conditions on court for
Sunday's final. Justine was unable to control her percise shot making in the
whirling dervish winds, and her compatriot sprinted off to a early 4-1 lead.
Clearly out of sorts battling nature's elements, with uncharacteristic shanks
and miss hits, some which flew into the crowd, Justine was able to find her
strokes to comeback at 4-4. But, again in the next games still fighting the
winds she failed to make an impression, and Clijsters won the first set 7-5.

The second set starts with more of the same with Justine battling a grounded
Kim, and the weather conditions. A solid, and steady Clijsters made very few
errors, contrasted to a very off, and bad day for Justine. Shots are all over
the place, and the second set went to her compatriot 6-1.

Final Score 7-5 6-1 for Clijsters

Justine's return back on tour, and her first tournament in two months was
more than satisfactory. A place back on the podium in a final, and able to
rediscover her rhythm and tennis during the week, particulary in the premier
level semi-final, and quarterfinal matches. She's accomplished what she
wanted with gathering as much match play to fine tune, and sharpen her tennis
for the US Open. One bad day on Sunday, but Justine's back on tour, and
awaits more contenders, rivals, and finals to come.

Next week Justine will be gearing up for the US Open, which begins on August
29, at Flushing Meadows, New York City. It's the final grand slam of the
year, and a place of great memories for Justine as the 2003 champion. The
competition will be fierce, but she will be there
