SSEWANKAMBO SETBACK AT YOUTH WORLD CUP
Posted on: Wed 23 Oct 2013
There was further disappointment for Chelsea Academy player Isak
Ssewankambo at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup when injury forced him out of
Sweden's second game of the tournament.
Having missed the opening 4-1 win over Iraq due to a thigh injury, the
midfielder recovered to start against Nigeria but came off after only 15
minutes.
The young Swedes went 2-0 up early in the game but eventually drew 3-3.
They are currently second in their group behind Nigeria on goals scored
with the final group game against Mexico on Friday. The tournament is
being held in the United Arab Emirates.
On Thursday, England Under-17s, with Dominic Solanke, Isaac
Christie-Davies and Isaiah Brown in the squad, start a qualification
tournament for the European Under-17 Championships. They take on Armenia
in Armenia.

Under-17 Championships.
Solanke was one of three Chelsea players involved, coming on as
58th-minute substitute for club colleague Isaiah Brown. Isaac
Christie-Davies, another schoolboy, came on 10 minutes later, his first
appearance at this level. Brown had a hand the second goal.

INTERNATIONALS: MIXED FORTUNES FOR UNDER-17S

Chelsea Academy players were among the goals as England Under-17s cruised
to a big win in their second game in a tournament in Armenia.
Playing on the FA's 150th birthday, the young England side beat Gibraltar
8-0 on Saturday afternoon, with Chelsea schoolboy Dominic Solanke adding
to his goal in a 4-0 win over the hosts on Thursday with two goals in this
latest game.
Isaiah Brown (pictured) was also on target to make it 6-0 having come on
as a sub, before turning creator for England's seventh. Solanke, playing
on the right of a front three, hit the fourth and eighth goals and
supplied the pass for the third.
The third Chelsea player in the squad, Isaac Christie-Davies, started the
game in midfield.
England Under-17s complete the first qualifying round tournament for the
European Under-17 Championships on Tuesday with a game against Republic of
Ireland.
Isak Ssewankambo's participation in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the
United Arab Emirates is at an end. Having missed Sweden's opener and come
off after only 15 minutes of the second game, the Sweden Football
Federation report a scan showed the Chelsea player's thigh injury will not
heal in time for him to play a part in the tournament so he is returning
to London.
