YOUTH REPORT: CHELSEA 2 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 2
Posted on: Sat 03 Mar 2012
Adi Viveash's young Blues came from two down to earn a point against Spurs
at Cobham on Saturday.
Second-half strikes from Lewis Baker and Ismail Seremba (pictured) dug the
inexperienced side, missing several of its FA Youth Cup regulars, out of
trouble after a spirited display.
The visitors were quickly in front when Jack Munns converted a fine team
move that had seen Chelsea slack in defence, and with the Blues struggling
to threaten it was little surprise when Tottenham doubled the lead before
the break when Ruben Lameiras swept home past schoolboy goalkeeper
Mitchell Beeney, with Chelsea failing to effectively clear a cross.
Walter Figueira went close to putting Chelsea back in contention before
Viveash made two changes at the break, replacing Alex Davey and Amin
Affane with Seremba and fellow forward Alex Kiwomya, and the move paid off
as Chelsea began to dominate.
Baker bent home a free-kick from the edge of the area to give the Blues a
chance, and as we have seen so frequently, it would not be long before
they were on level terms.
Substitute Anjur Osmanovic put a good chance over the bar before teeing up
Baker who having seen his shot saved by the Spurs goalkeeper was able to
find Seremba with the rebound, and the substitute made no mistake in
finding the bottom corner.
It took fine work from the visiting keeper to prevent Kiwomya from winning
it in the closing stages, while Beeney also saved from Lameiras, and so on
reflection both sides will probably feel they earned a deserved point.
The reserves entertain Arsenal on Monday at Cobham, with several youth
team regulars likely to feature in Dermot Drummy's side.
