Jones will finish the regular season as one of the top four outfielders on the
club, take a few weeks off and then go to Venezuela for the second half of the
Winter League season in the Caribbean. That will prepare him for Spring
Training, where he would be expected to become a fixture in the lineup for 2008
and beyond. He has stardom written all over him.

The Mariners have scouts who watch and grade every player in the Major Leagues.
Therefore, when apotential trade is discussed, the general manager has the
information needed to make a decision on whether to consummate the trade,
or reject it, depending on hole(s) the team needs to fill. In this case, the
Mariners needed a starting pitcher more than they needed a late-inning reliever,
and therefore made the trade that hasn't worked out as planned.
