Red Sox agree to deal with Beltre

The Red Sox have agreed on a deal with third baseman Adrian
Beltre, a source told the Globe. The deal is for one year with
Beltre holding an option for the second year.

Peter Gammons is reporting that Beltre would be paid $9 million in
2010. The option would be worth $5 million. In essence, it's a
two-year deal with an opt-out after one year.

At that rate -- an average of $7 million a year -- it's an easy
deal for the Sox to make and gives them a tremendously strong
defensive infield along with some more power in their lineup.

Long-term, this suggests they do not believe thay can pry Adrian
Gonzalez away from the Padres any time soon. It also would seem to
indicate that Mike Lowell will either play off the bench or be
traded.

算是兩年14M的合約(9M in 2010, 5M in 2011)，然後Beltre可以選擇要不要
使用2011的選擇權，或是離隊。

Let's hope he can slug more than Jacoby Ellsbury does..
