David Luiz: It hasn't been a 's*** season' for Chelsea... and everyone was
crying after Atletico defeat, not just John Terry

David Luiz knows any season without a trophy is bad for a club like
Chelsea, but does not believe the players could have done any more.


Jose Mourinho's first campaign back at the Stamford Bridge helm has been
impressive yet may well end without silverware.


Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final
juncture by Atletico Madrid on Wednesday and now only have the Barclays
Premier League to fight for.


The Blues play their penultimate game of the season against Norwich on
Sunday, going in two points off the top after their smash-and-grab 2-0 win
at leaders Liverpool last weekend.


The bookmakers expect Mourinho's men to eventually fall short in that
title bid and, despite ending the season without a trophy, Luiz remains
upbeat.


'This is football,' he said. 'We need to be a man as it is not always
possible to win. The season we won the Champions League was a s*** season
until the end and then we won two titles. It is normal. Now, we keep
fighting in the league because mathematically we can win. We cannot win
automatically, it will be difficult.


'We are a big club and we want to win trophies, but the most important
thing is to have a personality. You need to fight in many situations. This
is sport, this is football. Everyone speaks about results, that's true.


'You can say it is a bad season if you don't have trophies in a season at
a big club, that is true. But in the end you need to remember everyone
here is human. Everyone here gave their best all season everyone can make
mistakes sometimes. That is normal. But you cannot hide yourself from any
situations.'


Luiz will return to Brazil for the World Cup this summer proud of his
endeavours for Chelsea, which has seen him deployed in several different
positions.


The 27-year-old downplayed talk that he could exit the west Londoners this
summer - 'My future is about God' - and believes Chelsea will kick on
strongly next season. I do my job every day,' Luiz said. 'We gave
everything. It is not a s*** season apart from the result when you don't
have a trophy.


'If there were many poor games, when you didn't play, didn't run, didn't
give your best then fine. But we gave our best in many, many games like
Wednesday, but sometimes possible to win, sometimes not.


'Next season there is a plan. We have many, many fantastic players and
everyone wants to win trophies because it is normal when you sit at home
on the sofa and watch television to see Chelsea fighting for trophies.'


That fight was epitomised by captain John Terry, who was mocked by some
for leaving the field in tears after Atletico Madrid triumphed 3-1 on
Wednesday.


'Everyone is crying,' Luiz added. 'Nobody likes to lose a Champions League
semi-final, not just John. We have to remember we are lucky people who
have the best job in the world. We have to respect that people at home do
not have the same life as us.'
