Chan, Chuang Win Tier I Doubles Glory in Rome

ROME, Italy - While two of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour's biggest singles
talents squared off in the singles final in the late afternoon, earlier in
the afternoon the doubles final stepped on Stadio Pietrangeli at the
Internazionali BNL d'Italia, and one of the best teams around - Chinese
Taipei's Chan Yung-Jan and Chuang Chia-Jung - captured the Tier I title.

Seeded No.5 this past week, Chan and Chuang weren't really meant to get
further than the quarterfinals. After a pair of straight set wins early in
the tournament they faced No.3 seeds Kveta Peschke and Rennae Stubbs in the
round of eight and shone brightly, defeating them handily, 75 62. In the
semifinals they had a 64 62 win over Peng Shuai and Sun Tiantian, conquerors
of No.1 seeds Cara Black and Liezel Huber, and on Sunday the Taiwanese duo
beat Iveta Benesova and Janette Husarova, 76(5) 63.

Chan and Chuang are now 23-11 on the season with two titles, at Pattaya City
in February and now Rome. This is their sixth overall Tour doubles title,
having also won one in 2005 (Seoul) and three in 2007 (Bangalore, Birmingham
and 's-Hertogenbosch).
