Malang Sarr will spend the 2022/23 season on loan at Monaco.

The French defender returns to his homeland for the coming campaign, where
he began his career just a little further along the coast with Nice,
becoming a first-team regular at the age of 17 before joining Chelsea in
2020 and signing a five-year contract with the club.

Monaco finished in third place in Ligue 1 last season while reaching the
knockout stages of the Europa League, a competition they are competing in
again having last night lost to PSV Eindhoven 4-3 on aggregate in a
Champions League third qualifying round tie.

triumphed at the FIFA Club World Cup.

He previously spent the 2020/21 season on loan with Porto, making 19
appearances for the Portuguese team, including six in the Champions
League, although he remained on the bench for their quarter-final games
against Chelsea.

Sarr's CFC career very weird. Signed on a speculative free, loaned to
Porto where he played more league mins for their B Team than first team,
but also nearly as many first team CL minutes as league minutes. Then gets
~1500 mins back at Chelsea after Bundesliga loan fell through.

It's one of those weird oddities where players who (with due respect)
aren't quite good enough but are happy to hang around at the bottom of the
squad end up getting a real chance to play, whereas the high end prospects
seek their treasure elsewhere because they're not happy to.

An oddity that shouldn't really exist in an ideal world but, as @KierDoyle
noted recently, Chelsea's bottom ~7 squad players in recent years haven't
been the high-end development prospects they should be because of so much
squad churn and poor business. Here's to that changing.
