Sergio Aguero tonight committed his peak years to City and revealed he hopes
to return to action against Liverpool next week.

The City ace has signed a lucrative new deal for the Blues said to be worth
around ￡55million over the next five years, and the news got a rapturous
reception when it was announced at the City Live event at Manchester Central.

And he is hoping that a rigorous new training regime will put an end to the
muscle injuries that saw him miss almost half of last season, and wrecked his
World Cup campaign.

Aguero is expected to miss Sunday’s season opener at Newcastle, but hopes
that by a week on Monday, when Liverpool visit the Etihad Stadium for the
first home game of the new campaign, he will be raring to go.

mini pre-season of at least a fortnight.

“By the third week I’ll be fully 100 per cent and ready to go.

That’s been happening since I got back here.

exercises and then I work on stability in my hips and sides and then the rest
is more straightforward, just to strengthen the pelvic area in order to
prevent any further injuries by the groin area of the sort that I’d been
having.

“So I’ll do about an hour before training, then it will be out there as
normal, with the rest of the group. I’ll follow that programme throughout
the whole season.”

The new deal for Aguero sends out a clear message to the world - and to Real
Madrid and Barcelona in particular - that the brilliant striker is simply not
for sale.

Every summer since he joined the Blues in a ￡38m deal three years ago,
Aguero has been linked with one of the Spanish giants, amid rumours that he
was unsettled in Manchester.

Every time, Aguero has come out to express his happiness at City, and he
stated his case again last night. “Look, the reality seems to be that ever
since I came here, during every close season, there has always been rumours
suggesting that I might be returning to Spain,” he said. “There has always
been this speculation but I certainly never pay much attention to it.


“But people hear this stuff flying around and they take it seriously. But I
can tell the fans and everyone at City to relax, I’m going to be here until
I see out my contract.”

The Argentine star made it a hat-trick of new deals for top City stars, after
David Silva signed on Monday and skipper Vincent Kompany on Wednesday.

And with Samir Nasri also adding his name to City’s long-term designs on
silverware, and deals still on the table for Edin Dzeko, James Milner and Joe
Hart, the Blues are aiming to keep their relatively young title-winning squad
together until the end of the decade.

By then, they hope that the promising youngsters working their way through
the academy will be ready to step up and take their places.

With the season starter against Newcastle just three days away, the
announcement of Aguero’s new deal is a huge boost - even though the
Argentina World Cup star is a major doubt for the big kick-off.

But he said there was no hesitation in penning a new deal, even though he
only signed a one-year extension to his previous deal last summer.

“When the club made the offer of another two years on my contract I
obviously said yes because I am very happy and content here,” he said.

“Let’s hope now from this season onwards we can continue to achieve big
things at the club.

because I think the club is investing well in order to be up there with the
best in the world.”

Aguero has a staggering record of 75 goals in 122 appearances for City, but
he believes the best is yet to come.

He said: “I just constantly try to improve each and every day, and then keep
on achieving something significant every season.

“Last year I had a good start but then had a bad time of it through injury
for the remainder of the season. This time around I hope that these injuries
are now behind me and I can get off to a similar start to last season and
then try and finish it in the best way possible.”
