Andy Roddick made a surprise appearance Wednesday at the Augusta National,
donning the familiar uniform of white jumpsuit and green cap as he served as
a golf caddy for former Masters winner Zach Johnson at the Par 3 Contest.

Johnson hinted at his special guest on his Twitter account in the morning,
writing: “Getting ready for a great Wednesday at Augusta. First 9 with
@stewartcink and J Byrd...then par 3 with both guys! Surprise caddy today!!!”

The pair arrangement was set up by their agents after Roddick expressed
interest in being a caddy, and they met for the first time Wednesday at the
club.

“He’s a Midwest boy, I’m a Midwest boy, and this is the first time he’s
here. And he wanted to caddy,” Johnson told USA Today. “I don’t have much
family here this year, which is a rare thing, so I said what the heck. I’ve
always wanted to meet him. I’m a sports freak in general and I’m a tennis
freak, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to meet him.”

The 2007 Masters champion even gave his caddy a chance to tee off for him at
the ninth hole. A nervous Roddick told the crowd before he took his shot, “
My hands are shaking. I can barely put the tee in the ground.”

The 28-year-old American was making his first visit to the Augusta National,
and compared the famed site to one he knows well, the All-England Club in
Wimbledon. “I see a lot of similarities between the two,” Roddick told AFP.
“Places rarely live up to the hype. This place surpasses it.”

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Zach Johnson relies on precision and an envied putting stroke
during his weekly battles against the best golfers in the world.

Johnson, however, had plenty of firepower on his bag on Wednesday.
Known for his powerful serve, former world No. 1 and 2003 U.S. Open champion
Andy Roddick carried Johnson's bag during the Par-3 Tournament at Augusta
National on the eve of the 75th Masters.

Roddick, the top American tennis player for the past 10 years, met Johnson
for the first time Wednesday under the famous Big Oak Tree just outside the
clubhouse. The two have mutual friends, and their agents set up the pairing.
"He's a Midwest boy, I'm a Midwest boy, and this is the first time he's here.
And he wanted to caddie," Johnson said. "I don't have much family here this
year, which is a rare thing, so I said what the heck. I've always wanted to
meet him. I'm a sports freak in general and I'm a tennis freak, so I thought
it was the perfect opportunity to meet him."

As for the Masters, which begins Thursday, Johnson, who stunned the golf
world by holding off Tiger Woods to win the 2007 Masters, said his form is in
fine shape and ready.

"My game is decent. It feels good. I'm hitting the ball fine and I'm putting
the ball fine," said Johnson, who tees off at 12:20 p.m. ET with Miguel Angel
Jimenez and Y.E. Yang. "All I have to do is execute right now and not
overthink. I have to make sure that I'm not playing for Sunday when I'm
playing my first round.

"But I feel good. And what's not to like? It's 70 degrees (Wednesday) and the
weather is going to be perfect this week. There is minimal wind, it's Augusta
National, I have friends with me. It can't get any better."

Tennis champ Andy Roddick made a special appearance yesterday during a
exhibition round at the Masters.

Roddick, who is recovering from an illness, was in Augusta where he traded in
his tennis shorts for overalls to caddy for touring pro and former champion
Zach Johnson during the Masters Par 3 contest.

“He’s a Midwest boy, I’m a Midwest boy, and this is the first time he’s
here. And he wanted to caddy,” Johnson said to the USA Today. “I don’t
have much family here this year, which is a rare thing, so I said what the
heck. I’ve always wanted to meet him. I’m a sports freak in general and I’
m a tennis freak, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to meet him.”

“Great day today! Front with JByrd and @stewartcink. Then par 3 with
@andyroddick on the bag! 75 deg weather at Augusta Natl…#perfectday”, John
said on twitter.

Andy tweeted his on message of thanks. “Big thanks to @zachjohnsonpga for
letting me tag along yesterday! Gonna watch him do work at Augusta this week.
”

“I was coming here with some buddies and thought it would be cool if I could
caddie for someone,” Roddick said to augusta.com. “Not only did I get to
walk with someone, but I got to walk with a champion.”
