Well, in my opinion the athlete's accent is similar that of a Filipino but
not entirely all. Filipino accent is quite distinct and somehow complex. I
would say it has also different levels depending on the person and how long
he/she has been trying to study/speak English. Some Filipinos may not speak
correctly due to language acquisition weakness, lack of practice, lack of
study, or minimal exposure.

I know that many non-native speakers of English strive to get rid of their
non-English accent, but for the vast majority of people (including me) that’
s very hard. While you might think that you don’t speak English with a
foreign accent, only native speakers of English know for sure.
