Free-wheeling offense gets stern test tonight

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — During Sunday's downpour — the one inside the Pepsi
Center, not outside — the free-shooting Nuggets scored 84 points in the first
half against Seattle. And did so again in the second half.

"Detroit's going to be a different game, more of a possession, mentally tough
game," Denver coach George Karl said. "It might not even be a 100-point game.
But it doesn't matter. We've got to be good enough to win playing different
ways. I think our team now, with Chucky Atkins playing, our bench is stronger
and there's a versatility with how we play. And it's pretty cool."

Sunday was pretty cool, too. Denver broke a lot of offensive records. But the
hard work — a five-game road trip that could determine whether they make the
playoffs — starts tonight against Detroit (48-18).

Entering this road trip, Denver is well-rested, coming off blowout wins against

Karl continually talks about the importance of passing. His team is 19-0 when

"As long as we're sharing the ball, you're going to see teams pretty much play
