Hewitt and Agassi Back in Full Form


It took just 54 minutes for No. 10 seed Lleyton Hewitt to down
unseeded Tommy Robredo 6-3, 6-2 in the first semifinal on Saturday.
Hewitt, who has been broken just once in five matches here this week,
lost just six points on serve to Robredo. Hewitt broke in the
eighth game of the match to win the first set, then closed it out with
breaks in the fifth and seventh games in the second set.


In the evening match, a sell out crowd of 10,500 witnessed No. 11 seed
Andre Agassi outlast No. 2 Andy Roddick 7-5, 6-7(2), 7-6(2).
Roddick was serving at 2-all in the first set when he fell behind 15-40,
but after saving two break points to knot the game at deuce, he won
the game with a pair of aces. He again faced a pair of break points
at 5-all, saving the first with a 126 mph ace up the middle, but Agassi
won the next point to hand Roddick his second break of the tournament.
Agassi closed out the set with an ace. Neither player had a break
chance in the final two sets. Roddick dominated the second set tie-break,
7-2, and closed out the set with a 138 mph ace. In the final set
tie-break Agassi raced out to a 5-1 lead and won 7-2.

With the win, Agassi moved into a tie for ninth place in the
INDESIT ATP 2004 Race. He also has earned at least $200,000 for the week,
moving him to 1,083,030 for his career in Cincinnati, making him the
third player in the history of the tournament to win over $1 million
(Pete Sampras, $1,397,954 and Michael Chang, $1,119,491).
