Even though the Cavs don't have draft picks in the upcoming NBA
Draft on June 28, they still are going through all their normal sco
uting work and will be scheduling workouts in the coming days. Assi
stant General Manager Chris Grant, who runs the team's draft, atten
ded the NBA Pre-Draft Camp in Orlando, Fla., during the Eastern Con
ference finals.

Multiple teams have extra first- and second-round picks. Grant
said the Cavs might have the green light to buy a pick for as much
as $3 million, but it would depend on who's available during differ
ent points in the draft. The Cavs might look to sign undrafted play
ers to nonguaranteed contracts.

Ira Newble has until the end of the week to decide whether to t
erminate the final year of his contract. Newble said Sunday that he
has come to a decision and he will not exercise the clause, which w
ill mean he'll make $3.4 million next year in the last of a five-ye
ar, $15 million deal that he signed in 2003. It will be the most he
has made for a season in his career.

"I haven't gotten much playing time and other teams haven't got
ten a chance to see me," Newble said. "I'm not going to give back
any money."
