Rumor: Lakers gauging potential return of a Kyle Kuzma, DeMarcus Cousins, Quin
n Cook trade package


With the NBA trade deadline fast approaching, the Los Angeles Lakers are tryin
g to figure out how to strengthen their lineup for a championship push. Accord
ing to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, one question the Lakers are considering is what a
trade package of Kyle Kuzma, DeMarcus Cousins, and Quinn Cook could bring back
in return.


Kuzma would be the prize of this potential package, even though he has struggl
ed this season. The summer arrival of superstar big man Anthony Davis hasn’t
helped Kuzma as he tries to figure out his new role, and he has also dealt wit
h several injury problems.

The former 27th overall pick is currently averaging a career-low 23.5 minutes
off L.A.’s bench, producing 11.8 points (on 42.0 percent shooting) and 3.5 re
bounds per game while shooting a mediocre 34.6 percent on 3-pointers.

While the Lakers value Kyle Kuzma as a member of their core, they’re reported
ly more open to listening to trade offers and would be willing to make a deal
if they get a lot in return. There were rumblings of the Sacramento Kings’ in
terest in the young forward, but nothing is imminent.

DeMarcus Cousins, on the other hand, holds value primarily because of his expi
ring deal. He signed a one-year contract with L.A. last summer, but unfortunat
ely for him, he tore his ACL prior to the start of the season. As it seems, th
e four-time All-Star might not even get a chance to suit up for the Lakers at
all.

Quinn Cook, who also signed with L.A. last summer as a free agent, has played
a minimal role for the Lakers this season. The 6-foot-1 point guard is averagi
ng just 13.0 minutes per game, but nevertheless, Cook’s 3-point shooting abil
ity could prove to be a valuable asset for a team in need of a guard who can s
tretch the floor.

The Lakers are rumored to be in the market for a backup point guard, so they c
ould be using this package as a way to look for help on that front.
