The France squad have returned home from the World Cup, jetting into Paris

at 11:50 CET, though, somewhat fittingly given the events of the last week,

the whole unit was not together according to France Football.



Les Bleus suffered one of their worst tournament campaigns ever as they

slumped out of the competition having scored only once in what was reckoned

to be a very winnable group for Raymond Domenech’s side. The outstanding

event of France’s South Africa saga was Nicolas Anelka’s outburst at

Domenech that led to the squad very publicly disintegrating.



That was perhaps telling on Thursday when les Bleus landed back on home

soil, as they refused to speak to journalists or fans, around 150 of

whom had gathered to vent their frustration at the team.



Thierry Henry quickly left for the Elysee Palace to meet with president

Nicolas Sarkozy, while Patrice Evra was swept away in a car.



Notable absentees were Yoann Gourcuff, William Gallas and France Ribery,

who all jetted to individual destinations on private jets. Ribery has

returned to Munich, where he will undergo a groin operation of

unspecified severity.


Sidney Govou, Hugo Lloris and fitness coach Robert Duverne were also

absent. The trio flew to Lyon, according to I-Tele.
