BVB face another tough test with the visit of hard-running side Freiburg
He watched Wednesday’s cup tie between SC Freiburg and VfB Stuttgart closely
from home. And he liked what he saw. The game, and the way Sportclub played.
"Freiburg are a lot better than their table position would suggest," said BVB
coach Jurgen Klopp on Saturday’s opponents at Signal Iduna Park
(kick-off: 1530 CET). "We will need to run a lot, and invest a lot of energy."

After losing a number of players in the summer and a poor start to the season
(three draws, three losses), Freiburg are gathering speed. "They are doing a
great job in Freiburg, even if it has taken a while," said Klopp who believes
that the team from southwester Germany has re-found their typical style of
football. "It looked a lot like Freiburg football again."
Klopp is expecting a tough game against a side that "has racked up the most
kilometres so far" and that last season managed to shut down the space between
the lines better than any other team in the Bundesliga. This means, according
to Klopp, that "we will need to run a lot, invest a lot of energy and play a
lot of football."
The Dortmund coach wouldn’t reveal whether he will make any changes, though
he admitted that he would like to give either Sven Bender or Nuri Sahin some
rest. The two holding midfielders have basically played every minute of every
game in the last couple of weeks due to the absence of both Ilkay Gundogan
and Sebastian Kehl, about whom Klopp said: "One of the two would have always
been an option."

In addition, Borussia had to go through extra-time against 1860 Munich. After
BVB were forced to play with a man down for 50 minutes against Napoli, Klopp
had opted to inject some fresh legs into his team for the match at Nuremberg.
Now, the situation is somewhat different, as Klopp explained: "We only played
one half of extra-time, the second one was more like a warm-down session."
Freiburg did not have to play extra-time against Stuttgart but they have a
day’s less rest. When asked whether this could be an advantage for BVB,
Klopp said: "It’s a disadvantage when you think you have an advantage...
