NEW CONTRACT FOR BLACKMAN

Goalkeeper Jamal Blackman has today (Thursday) signed a new contract which
will keep him at the club until June 2019.


Blackman, 20, joined our Academy at Under-13s age group and has since gone
on to earn international recognition for England at Under-16, Under-17 and
Under-19 level.


He was an ever-present during our triumphant FA Youth Cup campaign in
2011/12 and was part of the first team squad which visited America the
following summer.


The youngster was first-choice goalkeeper for the Under-21s during the
2012/13 season, and featured for the first team in a friendly against
Manchester City in the US last May.


He was part of the first team squad during the 2013/14 campaign, training
regularly alongside Petr Cech and Mark Schwarzer, while also playing for
the Under-21s at times.


Blackman was a hero in our Under-21 Premier League play-off semi-final
against Manchester City when he saved two penalties in the decisive
shoot-out. He also played in the final, a 2-1 win against Manchester
United at Old Trafford.
