The stretch run in the marathon regular season has started, and the Mariners
went into August competing for both the American League West and Wild Card
playoff spots. The non-waiver trade deadline passed on July 31 without
significant changes on the 25-man roster, but teams still can make personnel
changes prior to Aug. 31 and the new players would be eligible for the
postseason. In the meantime, fans have questions and we're here to answer
as many as we can.

making Ben Broussard the full-time first baseman? Broussard seems to be a

A:Several factors are against the Mariners trading Sexson. His batting average,
which has hovered around the .200 mark all season, is not conducive to
drawing interest from other organizations. His contract, which pays him
about $14 million per season with one year remaining, is another strike
against making a trade. Broussard is a better contact hitter, but to say
he has "proven power" is overstating it a bit He had 83 home runs in his
first 1,950 MLB at-bats -- or one every 25 at-bats -- compared to Sexson's
290 home runs in 4,559 at-bats -- or one every 15.7 at-bats
以下的數點將是水兵難以交易兒子的原因

2. Jose Guillen has done a great job for the Mariners this season, providing
a lot of clutch hits and getting a ton of RBIs. I know he was signed to a
one-year contract, and with Adam Jones looking for a roster spot, do you
see the Mariners keeping him after this year?

A: The Mariners and Guillen have a mutual option for the 2008 season at
$9 million, or a $500,000 buyout. Negotiations are ongoing for a contract
extension. Guillen has proven that his surgically repaired right elbow is
100 percent healthy, he has the most pure swing among the hitters,
and McLaren loves the guy.

3. I seriously think the Mariners should have traded for some
starting pitching. Why didn't they?

trade for starting pitching -- there wasn't much out there. You might
have noticed that only one starting pitcher was traded --
right-hander Matt Morris, from the Giants to the Pirates. It was not a
