Liverpool. Defeat took the opportunity to win the title out of the Reds'
hands. And they went on to blow a 3-0 lead at Crystal Palace in their
penultimate game, drawing 3-3, as a great season fell apart right at the
death.


The former Liverpool captain, now manager of Rangers, admitted recently
that he was still haunted by the error that let in Ba.

Victory five years ago kept Chelsea's faint hopes of challenging Liverpool
and City for the title alive. But this time the Blues need the points to
help secure a Champions League place.


Willian said: “We've changed a lot. A lot of players have changed. We've
changed the philosophy of the way we play and a lot of things at the club.
But we are still Chelsea. We are still a big club, with the desire to win
titles and to win this kind of game. We are the same. We are Chelsea.”


The Blues, of course, have won the title twice in between Liverpool's
current challenge and 2014. Mourinho claimed his third Premier League
crown the following season, only to be sacked by Chelsea for the second
time in December 2015.

Antonio Conte continued the boom-and-bust cycle, making the club English
champions again in 2017 then being fired in the wake of another season
undermined by player power.


With Gary Cahill exiled by current boss Maurizio Sarri, Willian and Cesar
Azpilicueta will be the only Chelsea survivors from 2014.


Apart, that is, from Mo Salah, who started the game for the Blues five
years ago and was replaced by Willian on the hour. Salah is a huge part of
a Liverpool team that still believes it can go one better than Brendan
Rodgers' side.


Willian said: “It is a similar situation, with Liverpool fighting for the
title. We want to win for ourselves, not because we want to stop someone
winning the title.


“It will be a difficult game. We know how hard it is to play at Anfield
against Liverpool. We have five games left. To be champions is impossible
but to reach our target of staying in the top four, I feel we can do it.
We can go to Anfield and do a good job. The same job.”

Liverpool have failed to beat Chelsea at Anfield in the Premier League in
their previous six meetings - their last win was a 4-1 victory in May
2012.


However, the Reds have not lost at home in the league for 37 matches, a
run which stretches back to April 2017 when they lost to Crystal Palace,
and Willian believes this is potentially the toughest fixture of the
season so far.

Liverpool and Chelsea have played each other twice already this season.
