Wily Mo Pena(notes) is headed for Japan.

The eight-year major league veteran signed a two-year deal with the Fukuoka
Softbank Hanks, the team announced on its website Friday.

Pena hit .204 with seven homers and 15 RBI in 39 games combined for the
Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners last season. For his career, he hit
.250 with 84 homers and 240 RBI in 599 games for the Mariners, Diamondbacks,
Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Reds, for whom he played
his first four major league seasons starting in 2002.

Pena, who turns 30 next month, was a member of the 2007 World Series champion
Red Sox for most of that season, but was traded to the Nationals in August.
He was given a ring by Boston for his contributions.

He joins the defending Japan Series champion, as the Pacific League team beat
the Chunichi Dragons of the Central League last year for its first title.
