Thomas Tuchel has revealed what he said to Kai Havertz before his
brilliant display against Crystal Palace and insisted every player in his
squad needs to perform at their best consistently to stay in the team.

Havertz produced arguably his best performance in a Chelsea shirt to date
as we raced to a 4-1 win at Selhurst Park, with the forward getting a goal
and an assist in the same Premier League game for the first time.


While Tuchel insists there is still more to come from his fellow German,
as well as wanting to see more consistency from him, he was pleased to see
him in form and revealed what he told the 21-year-old before the game to
get the best out of our number 29.


'I cannot tell you the level that he will reach or how fast he can do it,'
said Tuchel. 'I can just repeat, when he stepped out of his comfort zone
when he changed club from Leverkusen to Chelsea he absolutely wanted to
challenge himself and now it's on him to show the quality.

'He had showed it already against very strong opponents in Everton and
Liverpool. He had a tough match against Porto and the speech was very
easy: “go and show that you can do better and fight for your place, you
get a second chance”.


'He knew that he had to be more ruthless in his finishing because he has
that extra quality and I want him to show it. He is about controlling the
ball, keeping the ball in difficult situations, having little runs in high
positions to finish and assist. He needs to show up and show up and show
up, this is life as an offensive player at Chelsea.'


He also insisted that Havertz should be judged on his own merits, not
compared to players with very different talents and personalities, as it

his best, but to do so on a regular basis, making it clear to the players
what they need to do to get into the team and stay there, given the stiff
competition for places at Chelsea.


'The guys are in a position that they need to deliver, it's as easy as
that. The offensive guys and the defensive guys, they know that if they
deliver they play for Chelsea. It's the moment to show your quality and to
deliver.


'We had a very good day against Crystal Palace. This was a big step for us
to get the win, but on Tuesday the challenge starts again with Porto.
Until then the guys are all keen to show that they are ready to be
rewarded with some minutes.'
