Abraham: We're a work in progress, we need to be strong together
27 Sep 2020
Tammy Abraham was the man in the right place for Chelsea to snatch a point
in the dying moments of yesterday's game at West Brom, but the striker
confirmed the feeling of disappointment in the 3-3 draw.

There was much to admire in the way the Blues fought back from 3-0 down at
half-time through goals from Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Abraham,
deep in added time, but the team had been culpable in the manner in which
Albion were allowed to go so far ahead, which was acknowledged by both
manager and players.
In his post-match analysis, Frank Lampard said: 'It was a difficult game
for Tammy where he has to keep working and fighting all the time to try
and break down a back five that want to sit deep but he gets his reward at
the end.'
Abraham admitted it was a relief when he rescued a point and added: 'In
the first half we made it difficult. I had a chance in the first half
that I should have put away, someone at my level should take those
chances. We had a few chances in the first half while West Brom scored
from every shot.
'When the first few chances don't go in you start to panic a bit and we
made a few errors and at our level we should not make those errors, but we
are still a work in progress and hopefully we can improve.
'We knew we had to come out in the second half and keep going and not drop
our heads and that is what we did.
'We went in at half-time and everyone was a bit down and so the manager
had to lift us up. He said we don't look like a team right now willing to
go out in the second half and as a team we had to lift each other, and you
could see that in the performance in the second half.'
The importance of Mason Mount's quality strike that pulled a goal back
only 10 minutes after the restart was huge.
'We knew we had to come out in the second half and try to get that early
goal and thankfully Mason did which gave us good belief.
'I knew we would get a few chances. To come back from 3-0 is never easy,
and give credit to the boys who never dropped their heads. We kept going
even though it looked like it was impossible.'

Looking at the wider picture, Abraham had this to say: 'First of all we
need to cut out the mistakes as a team, not just defensive work, so we
don't concede. We need to be strong together and keep encouraging one
another.'
