A round-up of the action from our loanees over the last week including a
Premier League debut and a goalkeeper heading on loan…

Ethan Ampadu made his Premier League debut at the start of the week as a
first-half substitute for Sheffield United at Villa Park, though the Wales
international could not prevent the Blades falling to a defeat in the
Midlands.


The 20-year-old replaced forward David McGoldrick after just half an hour
as Chris Wilder responded to his side going down to 10 men but the
pressure eventually told in the second half as Aston Villa scored the only
goal of the game through Ezri Konsa.


Ampadu then started the Yorkshire derby against Leeds United on Sunday but
there was late heartbreak for Sheffield United as former Blue Patrick
Bamford netted again to steal all three points late on for Marcelo
Bielsa's men. The result means the Blades sit bottom and pointless after
their opening three games.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Michy Batshuayi played the final 15
minutes as Crystal Palace dropped their first points of the season at
Selhurst Park. The striker replaced new boy Eberechi Eze but could not
help Palace to a comeback following a controversial penalty awarded to
Everton for handball late in the first half.


The Eagles visit Stamford Bridge next, though Batshuayi will be ineligible
to face his parent club on Saturday lunchtime, as was Conor Gallagher when
the Blues travelled to West Brom on Saturday.


In Spain, Granada's winning start to the season ended abruptly in the
capital as a rampant Atletico Madrid beat them 6-1, with Diego Costa
opening the scoring and new signing Luis Suarez bagging a late brace from
the bench.


Kenedy started for Diego Martinez's side and was replaced after an hour.
They have a place in the Europa League group stage to play for this
midweek when they travel to Sweden to take on Malmo.

After scoring on his debut on the opening weekend of the Serie A season
for Genoa, there was far less cause for celebration for Davide Zappacosta
as his new loan side were beaten 6-0 at Napoli.


Elsewhere in Europe, Lewis Baker completed back-to-back 90 minutes in
Turkey's Super Lig as Trabzonspor won 3-1 against Yeni Malatyaspor, with
the midfielder involved in all three goals. It was his corner that led to
former Stoke City striker Benik Afobe opening the scoring midway through
the first half before the 25-year-old found himself in an advanced
position to tee up Afobe again for the second.


Baker again featured in the move that made it 3-0 before the break as
Eddie Newton's side claimed their first victory of the campaign.


In Belgium's top division, Ike Ugbo notched his second goal of the season
for Cercle Brugge in Monday's 3-0 win over St Truiden. The young striker
converted from the penalty spot and had another ruled out by VAR for
offside. He retained his place in the attack alongside Kylian Hazard for
the weekend's derby against Club Brugge but couldn't prevent his new side
from losing 2-1, leaving them ninth in the early standings.

Lucas Piazon played the final 23 minutes of Rio Ave's 0-0 draw with
Guimaraes in Portugal's Primeira Liga, while Danilo Pantic was involved in
the majority of Cukaricki's 4-0 win against Macva in Serbia. In the
Netherlands, Armando Broja came on after an hour of Vitesse's 2-1 defeat
at Ajax.


Back in England, there was a third successive clean sheet for Swansea
City and Marc Guehi, who moved up to third in the Championship with a 2-0
win at newly promoted Wycombe Wanderers. Steve Cooper's side have opted
for three at the back in their opening games and the system appears to be
well-suited to their defensive options.

Jamal Blackman helped Rotherham United pick up a useful point away at
Birmingham City as they drew 1-1, though there was a 2-0 loss for Izzy
Brown and Sheffield Wednesday at Bristol City, with the forward replaced
after 68 minutes.


In League One, Luke McCormick went straight into the Bristol Rovers side
for his debut away at Doncaster Rovers, though the Gas were beaten 4-1 in
Yorkshire. A division lower, Jamie Cumming continued between the posts for
Stevenage but they were beaten 2-1 by Bradford City, four days after
opening their EFL Trophy campaign with a victory over Southampton's
Under-21s.


Another young goalkeeper, Ethan Wady, has completed a season-long loan
move to National League South side Dartford.
